Duotone Sky Start DST

The Duotone Sky Start DST is the Wing Foil beginner’s board that makes getting started as easy as possible. With a volume of 170 liters, an extended outline, and robust Dura Shield Technology (DST), it provides exactly the safety you need for your first foiling experiences: from your first time kneeling to your first controlled flight.

Is this the Duotone Sky Start DST suitable for absolute beginners?

Yes, the Sky Start DST is built specifically for that purpose. It eliminates the typical frustrations at every stage of learning because its shape has been specifically optimized for stability and easy takeoffs.

In the very first phase (kneeling & getting a feel for it): The width of 31.5''/80 cm ensures high stability against tipping, so you can kneel calmly on the board and focus on Wing handling without constantly having to adjust your balance.
When standing up (from kneeling to standing): This is where the new step-tail comes in: It makes it easier to shift back on the board and prevents the tail from tipping away as you rise. The visual positioning markers on the deck pad show you the ideal foot position—helping you avoid the classic beginner’s mistake of standing too far forward or too far back.
On your first takeoff: The extended outline and volume distribution create a smooth, predictable transition from gliding to flying; the board doesn’t “shoot” uncontrollably toward the Foil, but lifts off evenly.
As you make progress: Even as you become more confident, the Sky Start remains agile enough to practice your first jibes and tacks before you eventually switch to a smaller freeride board.

Volume Guide: How much buoyancy does a Wing Foil board need for beginners?

A general rule of thumb for beginners is: body weight (in kg) + 40–50 liters. This amount of volume gives you enough reserve to stand steadily while still taking off early. With 170 liters, the Sky Start DST covers almost all beginner weight classes and serves as a true “worry-free package”—even for heavier riders up to around 120 kg.
